ABOUT US
The Tigray Community Association in Calgary (TCAC) is a non-profit, non-political, and non-religious organization established by Tegaru members residing in Calgary. Formed by three individuals of Tegaru descent in 1982, the community officially registered in 2019. Since its inception, the community has grown and currently boasts a membership of over 250 individuals.
As per our Bylaws, the TCAC's leadership comprises seven elected board members, chosen biennially by the general assembly. Their primary duty is to supervise the community's overall functioning and welfare.
TCAC is dedicated to cultivating connection and networking opportunities for all members, facilitating the celebration and expression of their culture while embracing diversity. Additionally, it promotes a deeper understanding of the values and traditions of Calgary's diverse population, as well as Canada's rich cultural heritage, which contributes to its prosperity and stability.
Presently, the TCAC places a strong emphasis on programs dedicated to youth development, mentorship, and nurturing cultural identity. These initiatives are designed not only to enrich cultural experiences and educational opportunities for children and youth but also to facilitate their integration into Canadian society and culture.
